Speeding Update

28th of October, 2025

Speeding concerns and other highway related issues have been raised at various Parish Council meetings, however as Highway safety is the responsibility of Lancashire County Council, the Parish Council is restricted in what action it can take.

Notwithstanding the above, the Parish Council has

  • paid for 2 Speed Indicator Devices (SPIDs) to monitor speeding incidents as vehicles enter Inglewhite village
  • successfully requested that LCC repaint the faded rumble strips on Button Street
  • successfully requested that the GIVE WAY signs be refreshed at Inglewhite crossroads. NOTE - LCC rejected the request to change the GIVE WAY sign to a STOP sign, stating they will only consider a stop sign where sight lines are so restricted that the junction becomes hazardous, and the vehicle is forced to come to a halt. LCC do not believe this to be the case at Inglewhite crossroads.

Recently, the Parish Council became aware that LCC were proposing to revoke 30mph limits, because motorists should be aware that the road is 30mph due to the presence of street lights and bus stops.
The Parish Council challenged the proposal as Inglewhite does not have street lights or bus stops. In response, LCC agreed to remove the revocation and will add a Speed Limit Order which will assist the police in enforcing the 30mph limit.
The Parish Council also requested a reduction to 20mph, however LCC replied that a 20mph limit would not be considered as Lancashire Constabulary records do not identify a current road safety concern - see the attached letter.

The Parish Council reports speeding concerns to the local police who can request local speed checks. Residents can accompany them on the checks by volunteering with the Community Road Watch scheme - using this link https://lancsvp.org.uk/opportunities/community-road-watch/ In addition, if you believe there is a road safety concern in Goosnargh, you can help resolve the issue by reporting it on this link. https://lancsroadsafety.co.uk/submit-concern/

You can also send dashcam footage of dangerous driving or other motoring offences to the police using 'Operation Snap'. More information can be found on the link below. If you have any comments or concerns about the initiative please email commissioner@lancashire-pcc.gov.uk
